Staying in the Tregaron area really does give you the best of all worlds as you are surrounded by the beautiful Cambrian mountains and yet only a ½ hour drive from some of the loveliest yet quietest beaches in Wales.
You are ideally situated for visiting either the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park or the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastal path, as both are only a 2 hour drive away.
Tregaron itself is a small market town with a population of around 1300. It is where the drovers, having purchased their stock at the local fairs such as Ffair Garon, would meet, before starting their long journey across the mountains to sell the sheep and cattle at the markets in London. Ffair Garon received its Royal Charter in 1292 and is still held today on the last bank holiday in May.
Bird Watching The whole area is an absolute paradise for bird watchers with the Tregaron Kite Centre only a few minutes walk away from the cottage, where you can learn more about the magnificent Red Kite. It was here that KITE FEEDING began some 15 years ago and you can still witness this incredible spectacle every day during the winter at the kite centre and at the south end of Cors Caron. It is the only place in the country where you can watch for FREE. Other birds that can be seen at various times of the year are:- Hen Harriers, Whooper and Berwick Swans, Redpoll, Redwings and Fieldfares in winter, and Peregrine, Goshawk, Merlin and Crossbill amongst others in the summer, along with many summer migrants.
Wildlife Cors Caron Nature Reserve is only a short distance outside the town with its abundance of wildlife.
The many other activities include:-
